The PLA stands for Polylactic acid and is another well-used material in the 3D printing sector. This material is derived from renewable resources which make it eco-friendly other than that it can be used for building implants due to its biocompatibility with the human body. The melting temperature of PLA is at 180 – 220-degree centigrade which is lower than ABS. therefore, making it best choice for surgical implants and artificial body parts. The Soft PLA is used for printing flexible parts like tires, gripping surfaces, and soft toys. This material is extremely tough and resistant to delimitation. This material is derived from High Impact Polystyrene and is one of the best materials that are used in making 3D models that need support. This material is mostly used in industry for packing like food and CD disc because it is biodegradable and it has no adverse effect on human. Naturally, these materials are produced in bright white color and have adhesion problems. The main application area of this material is in food industry
The PVA stands for Polyvinyl Alcohol. It is easy to print and have good properties. The models made using this material contain features like non-toxicity and biodegradability. It is also used during the printing process to support those models that overhang. PLA dissolves in both hot and cold water but in hot water, the process is faster. The other feature of PLA is that it has high extensible strength because of this property it is used to provide strength to 3D printed structures. However, heating of PVA above 70 degree centigrade can be harmful to use due to its high extensible structure.
There are several types of Nylon material used in 3D printing like Nylon 618 for dying, Nylon PA6Polymer for heavy duty parts in the automobile industry. The Nylon material is great to use in any industry. Due to its biocompatibility and low warp, it is best for making prosthetics and artificial cartilage. The availability of nylon material is low in the market which is why ABS and PLA are preferred to use. Other than that this material has self-bonding properties, it is quite strong and provides resistance to change. Besides its availability, it can be used to dye any material and due to its durability, it is widely used in automobiles industry
The wood material is derived from Fused Depositing Modeling Filament which sometimes also called Wood Filament. This filament is the best choice for people who like to print objects that smell like wood although parts do not look like 3D prints due to their wood-like nature. This filament contains a mixture of recycled wood with a polymer that binds itself. Whereas, the printing process is same as any other thermoplastic material, the color of filament changes with a change in temperature that can result in different shades of brown. The higher temperature used in 3D printing the darker brown appearance you’ll get. This material is suitable for projects that used are for decoration purposes. The disadvantage of using this material is that the prints are weaker than any thermoplastic material so, they can be easily broken.
